My hen decided to roost in the neighbor's tree last Tuesday
I was out in my yard in Portland around sunset when I saw my Buff Orpington, Bertha, fly up into a big maple tree on the other side of the fence. I spent the next hour trying to coax her down with a rake and a bowl of mealworms, but she just clucked at me. Finally, I had to drag my step ladder over and climb up to get her, which my neighbor watched from his window. Has anyone else had a chicken decide to become a tree chicken?

That "tree chicken" thing (and the step ladder rescue) is so real. It feels like everything, from chickens to my wifi router, has a secret plan to get just slightly out of reach, forcing a whole new plan. Makes a simple Tuesday into a weird little project.

Oh man, the step ladder of shame. I once spent forty minutes trying to get my cat out of a ceiling panel he'd somehow gotten into, only to realize I was just talking to a weird shadow. My animals are experts at making me look like a fool in front of the neighbors.
