Just figured out why my hens were laying soft eggs for 5 weeks
I was giving my 6 hens crushed oyster shell in a little dish next to their feed, thinking they'd just eat what they needed. Then my neighbor Dana came over to grab some eggs and pointed out that my flock was just kicking the shell all over the coop floor because the dish was too shallow. I switched to a deep hanging feeder and within a week the shells were hard again. Anyone else run into hens that won't touch calcium unless it's set up a certain way?
