Just counted my egg cartons from this month and the number blew my mind

I have three Rhode Island Reds in a coop I built myself, and I finally got around to stacking up the empty cartons from April. I hit 17 full dozen, which is way more than I expected from just those three birds. What's a normal monthly count for your small flock?

You saying you built the coop yourself made me remember my first one. I used old pallets and some chicken wire, and it looked like a strong wind would knock it over. My birds were not impressed and kept trying to roost on the fence post instead. It was a real lesson in chicken opinions.

Pallets and chicken wire sounds like a recipe for disaster. I can't believe your chickens actually tried to sleep outside of it. Mine would have been picked off by a raccoon in the first week. That's the funniest chicken protest I've ever heard, choosing a fence post over their house.
