I thought those automatic coop door openers were just a silly gadget

For years I told myself I didn't need one, that getting up at dawn to let the girls out was just part of the deal. Then last winter I got the flu and was stuck in bed for a week, and my partner had to leave for work before sunrise. We came out to find a possum had tried to dig under the closed coop door, and that was the push I needed. I bought a basic 'ChickenGuard' timer model for about $90 and set it up. Now the door opens and closes with the sun, rain or shine, and I haven't had a single predator scare since. Anyone else switch to an auto-door after being stubborn about it?

Wait you had a possum problem in the winter. That's wild. I thought they'd be hibernating or something. Makes total sense to get the door then.
