I swore my hens did not need a dust bath until I saw one of them on day 3 in the rain
I used to think a dust bath was just a fancy extra that city folks added, so I kept my 6 hens on plain dry dirt in the run here outside Boise and figured that was plenty. Then a wet stretch hit and my barred rock started pacing the fence line and picking at her own feathers, so I grabbed a $14 bag of peat moss and sand from the feed store and dumped it in an old tire in the corner. Three days later she was fluffed up and rolling in it like she had waited her whole life, so has anyone had a hen that flat out ignored a bath box, or do they all come around once it stays dry?
