Hot take: you don't need a heat lamp for chicks in the coop

Everyone told me I was crazy for skipping the heat lamp last spring, but I used a brooder heating plate instead and my 6 chicks did fine even when it dropped to 40 at night. Has anyone else tried this and found it works better than the old way?

Was the coop itself insulated or did you just rely on the plate heating? I tried a heating plate last batch but my coop has gaps and drafts, so the chicks huddled away from it and I had to put a lamp in anyway.

Wait till a power outage hits and you'll wish you had that old lamp.
