Found a simple trick to stop my hens from eating their own eggs

I was losing about 3 eggs a week to my Rhode Island Reds pecking them open. Tried oyster shells, dummy eggs, even a rollaway nest box. Nothing worked. Then a neighbor told me to just collect eggs TWICE a day and leave a few fake ceramic eggs in the nest. I've been doing that for 2 months now and zero broken eggs. Anyone else have luck with fake eggs over other methods?

Wait, is collecting eggs twice a day really a "simple trick" or just more work? I mean, fake eggs might help but it feels like you're just treating the symptom instead of figuring out why they're doing it in the first place.
