Everyone told me to get a coop with a run attached, but I went with two separate structures and it's been way better for my flock in Seattle.

My cousin in Tacoma did the same thing last year. Her chickens seem way happier with the extra space to roam.

Okay but how much did you spend on extra hardware to link them? I went the separate route too and my DIY skills are a joke, so my "run" is basically just some old garden fencing held up with zip ties and hope. Sounds like @harper_rodriguez87's cousin had the right idea for giving them more room.
