Egg counter hit 500 this morning, way more than I planned

I started with 6 hens back in March and this morning my tally app crossed 500 eggs. I expected maybe 250 in a year, but my Wyandottes and one Rhode Island Red just kept laying through the summer heat. The real shock was the feed bill, about $140 for 8 bags of layer crumble, plus the oyster shells they go through. Has anyone else tracked their total and found the number way higher than they guessed?

Honestly, I used to think my girls were just average layers, but hearing your numbers totally changed my mind. Now I’m kinda scared to check my own tally.
