Vent: That guy on the Pacific Crest who gave me unsolicited advice

I was hiking near Crater Lake last summer when this older hiker stopped me on the trail to tell me my pack straps were adjusted wrong. He spent 10 minutes showing me a different way to tighten them, even though I'd been fine for 200 miles. Has anyone else had a stranger insist on 'fixing' your setup when you didn't ask for help?

That guy sounds like the trail version of the people who walk up and adjust your sunglasses at the beach. I once had a woman in REI stop me mid-aisle to tell me my hydration reservoir was "definitely going to leak" based on how I had the hose routed. She made me take my whole pack off in the store and showed me her method right there between the camp stoves. A store employee came over to see if everything was okay. Did you actually try the strap adjustment later or did you just nod and keep walking?

Actually tried the strap adjustment later that night in my tent and it made a world of difference. Sometimes the unsolicited advice is annoying but these trail know-it-alls usually know their stuff.
