Vent: Overheard a ranger at the Olympic National Park visitor center say the Hoh River Trail is 'a mud pit for 12 miles' right now

I was grabbing a permit last Thursday and the ranger was telling a group that the usual spring melt has turned the first long stretch into a real slog. She said people are coming back with soaked gear and twisted ankles because they think it's just a little damp. Has anyone been up there in the last couple weeks and can confirm how bad it really is?

I hiked it last weekend and it was just normal spring conditions. Good boots and poles make a huge difference, maybe the ranger was being overly cautious. It's wet but totally passable if you're prepared.

Yeah it's like how some people treat a little rain like a storm. I see it with tenants too, calling about a small leak that just needs a tightened valve. Everyone's so afraid of a bit of mess or effort now. Makes you wonder if we're just getting softer, or if the people in charge are covering themselves too much. What's the worst that happens, you get a little muddy?
