Update: I quit relying on trail apps for route planning last season
Navigating with just a map and compass made me actually pay attention to the land. Don't you think we're losing that skill for good?

GPS apps saved me from myself, honestly. Got lost in a mall parking lot once and now I always check which way the car is facing. You learn where things are by going the wrong way enough times.
