Update: A single wrong turn in the Wind River Range turned a 3-day loop into a 5-day survival test
My buddy and I missed a faint trail junction near Lizard Head Meadows, adding 15 miles and forcing us to ration our last two energy bars. Has anyone else had a simple navigation error completely rewrite a trip?

Faint trail junction" is putting it nicely. I once spent an hour convincing myself a deer path was the real trail because I refused to check the map again.

Remember that hour convincing yourself about the deer path. What was the final thing that made you pull the map back out? For me, it's usually the trail getting stupid, like suddenly needing to crawl under a giant fallen tree a horse could never pass.
