Unpopular opinion: I think stoveless ultralight trips are overhyped

I tried going stoveless on a 5 day trip through the Smokies last spring to save weight. My cold soaked beans were barely edible by day 3 and I missed hot coffee so bad I almost turned around. Meanwhile my buddy brought a BRS 3000t stove and a tiny fuel can and his pack was still under 12 pounds. So was it really worth ditching the stove for that 3 ounces of savings? Anyone else try stoveless and regret it or am I just doing it wrong?

Why would you give up hot coffee for a few ounces? That's just pure misery with no real payoff.

Get where you're coming from but I disagree. I've done a bunch of stoveless trips and the freedom is real. No fussing with fuel, no cleaning pots, just eat and go.
