Told my route was too ambitious for a 3 day trip, totally changed how I pack now

Some guy on a PCT forum straight up said my planned 45 miles in 3 days was 'stupid for a beginner' and I got defensive at first, but he was right. I cut it to 25 miles and actually enjoyed the views instead of just staring at my boots. Anybody else ever get called out on a route plan and actually benefit from it?

Oh man, same thing happened to me on the JMT! I planned this monster 15 mile day through Evolution Valley and a veteran hiker basically laughed at me. Cut it down to 10 miles and actually had time to soak in the hot springs at Muir Trail Ranch. Now I always plan for half the distance I think I can do, way more time to enjoy the little stuff like weird rock formations or just taking a nap by a creek.

Totally feel you on that one, slowing down makes all the difference.
