That old guy on the PCT who told me I was doing it all wrong
I was hiking the Pacific Crest Trail near Tuolumne Meadows when this guy probably in his 60s just stopped me and said my pack was too high. He said I'd have shoulder pain by day three and he was right lol. He showed me how to drop the hip belt lower and adjust the load lifters, and honestly it changed how I hike forever. Has anyone else run into a random stranger who totally flipped your gear setup?

My buddy Dave met this crusty old guy outside Bishop who told him his tent stakes were basically worthless. Said real dirtbags use deadman anchors instead and showed him right there in the dirt how to bury sticks and rocks.

Guarantee that old guy also carries a fixed-blade knife he bought in 1982 and complains about how they don't make gear like they used to. Classic Bishop move, telling some random stranger their ultralight titanium stakes are junk. I bet Dave came back all paranoid about his campsite security and spent the next hour digging holes with a stick. Meanwhile the old dude probably uses a tent that weighs forty pounds and gets a kick out of scaring new climbers.
