My boot sole peeled off 8 miles into a Colorado trail last month
I was hiking the Four Pass Loop near Aspen and about 8 miles in my right boot sole just started flopping. The glue gave out completely on a steep rocky section. I had to wrap it with some paracord and duct tape I had in my pack to finish the loop. Made it another 12 miles like that but my ankle was killing me by the end. Anyone else had a boot fail mid trip and had to jury rig a fix?

Oh man, did your friend's boot actually make it the whole 12 miles after that? I had a buddy who did something similar on the Long Trail in Vermont, his boot sole started flapping about 6 miles from the road... he just kept hiking and let it flop for the rest of the day, ended up with a huge blister on his heel and a major limp for a week... it was pretty funny to watch him try to walk normally after that. His fix was just a lot of duct tape too, but he didn't have paracord so it was way less secure and he almost lost the whole sole twice... I guess some things you just can't plan for out there.

Yeah but at least it's a good story now, right?
