I switched from the paper map to a phone app on the Lost Coast and I'm never going back
I used to swear by paper maps for staying found, but after I missed a tide window on a 25 mile stretch near Shelter Cove last month because I couldn't read the faint trail marks, I loaded a GPX track on my phone and it got me through every creek crossing and camp spot without a single wrong turn, so has anyone else made the switch or do you still carry paper as backup?
Wait, you missed a tide window because of faint trail marks? That is terrifying. I can't even picture trying to squint at a soggy paper map while the ocean is coming in on you.
