I finally stopped carrying 9 pounds of water on the JMT
Last month on the John Muir Trail near Reds Meadow, I realized my filter setup was wasting way too much time and effort. I switched to a 2 liter CNOC bag with a Sawyer squeeze and kept it in my side pocket, so I could grab water from any stream without stopping to unpack. That cut my water carry weight by half on the long dry stretch between Muir Trail Ranch and Evolution Lake. Has anyone else tried a gravity setup with the same filter to save even more time on longer hauls?

Did you ever try leaving the Sawyer attached to the CNOC while you scoop, so the water filters itself as you fill up? lol I found that cuts out the whole gravity step on flat stretches.
