Finally trusted that youtube hiker about water filters after getting sick on the trail

I spent $45 on a cheap UV pen filter from Amazon and ended up with giardia near Mount Whitney last summer. So now I am a strict Sawyer Squeeze fan, what dumb mistakes turned you into a gear snob?

Took an MSR miniworks EX with me on the JMT and the pump handle snapped on day two. Was filtering out of a creek with a busted pump and drinking untreated for the next 4 days. Never again. Switched to the Sawyer Squeeze and been running it for 3 years without a single issue. Just backflush it with the syringe after every trip.

Respect that worked for you but my MiniWorks lasted 8 years without breaking, user error happens.
