A simple mistake on the High Sierra Trail almost cost me a lot more than time
I was about 15 miles in near Hamilton Lake when I realized my water filter was clogged, and I had no backup way to clean water. The tip-off was seeing another hiker use a pre-filter on their intake hose, something I'd never bothered with. I had to boil everything for two days, which burned through my fuel and added hours to each stop. Has anyone else run into this, and what's your go-to backup plan for water?

Boiling water for two days sounds like a great way to test your patience (and your stove's limits).

Honestly, what's the big deal with the time? It's not like you have to stand there watching it. You set it up, make sure it won't boil dry, and just let it go. The stove can handle it. It's just doing its job, same as a long simmer for stock. Doesn't that seem pretty normal for some projects?
