Shoutout to the old 430W GPS unit that gave up the ghost on a King Air last Tuesday

It just dropped all signal over Kansas, had to pull the whole LRU and swap it with a spare from the hangar. Anyone have a good source for those legacy WAAS upgrade kits now?

Wait, it just went out over Kansas? That's a seriously bad spot to lose your box. Tbh that's a whole lot of nothing down there to be flying blind in. Honestly gives me the chills just thinking about it, glad you had a spare on hand. Those old units are such a gamble now.

Whole lot of nothing" is exactly why it's a fine place for a failure. Plenty of open space and flat ground for an emergency. Those old units are simple and you can usually limp them home on basic instruments. Makes you a better pilot than just trusting a screen.
