Overheard a gate agent say something about static that stuck with me

I was waiting to pick up a buddy at BWI last Tuesday and this gate agent was complaining to a pilot about how her earbuds kept popping when she walked near the jet bridge. The pilot laughed and said static discharge is why we ground the plane before hooking up fuel, and it hit me how much of our work is just managing invisible stuff like that. I'd never really connected how the same static that bugs her earbuds is what can fry a fuel probe or mess with a transponder if we skip bonding. It made me think about all the little procedures I do on autopilot, like checking the ground strap every time, and how they're actually saving someone's day in a way nobody notices. Has anyone else had a random non-tech comment suddenly make a routine part of the job click for them? Maybe it's just me, but I feel like I pay more attention to those straps now. That pilot never even looked at the wiring, but his one sentence stuck with me more than any manual I've read. What's something you heard outside the hangar that changed how you work inside it?
