I was dead wrong about those new digital compass calibrations

For two years I swore the old magnetic flux valve method was more reliable on Gulfstreams, but after fighting a persistent heading error on a G550 last month I finally tried the digital calibration procedure step by step. It turned out a loose ground strap was throwing off the whole system, and the digital alignment caught it in 10 minutes flat. Has anyone else had a similar flip on an old habit that just would not die?

Dude, that thing about a habit that just would not die is exactly how I felt with a totally different problem. I was so stuck on an old way of doing something for years, convinced it was the only way. Then when I finally caved and tried the new method, it solved the whole mess in like half the time and I felt like an idiot for not switching sooner. It's wild how our brains get locked into 'this is how it's always been done' even when the proof is right there. So yeah, I feel you completely on that.

ngl, sometimes you just gotta break your own stupid rules to see how dumb they really were.
