Heard a senior tech say "the wire doesn't care what you think" and it stuck with me

I was troubleshooting a intermittent fault on a Gulfstream GIV at our shop in Savannah last Thursday. This guy with 30 years in just watched me for 10 minutes then said "the wire doesn't care what you think, it either has continuity or it doesn't". I was going off assumptions based on the schematic instead of just running a simple resistance check on the right pin. Has anyone else ever wasted time overthinking a fix when the answer was just running a basic test first?

Nah, sometimes spending time thinking through the problem saves you from chasing the wrong wire entirely.

That third time I tried to fix the same flickering porch light last summer really taught me that lesson the hard way. I spent two whole afternoons running back and forth to the hardware store for different parts before I finally sat down and traced the whole circuit with a multimeter. Turned out it was just a loose neutral wire behind the switch plate the whole time. Sometimes stopping to map things out on paper really does save you from making three trips to Lowe's for no reason.
