Rant: a guy at the Dayton auto parts counter talked me out of the right part
I went to the counter at the Advance in Dayton last Saturday to grab a water pump for my 2003 Civic, and the guy behind the register told me my leak was probably just the gasket. I told him I already checked, the bearing was shot and wobbling, but he kept saying I should try a $4 tube of RTV first and save the money. Against my gut I listened, spent two hours pulling everything apart, and the pump was grinding so bad the pulley had play in it. I ended up going back Sunday for the $58 pump I needed from the start, plus a new belt since I nicked the old one. He wasnt rude about it, he just wouldnt believe a woman knew what a bad bearing sounds like. Has anyone else had a counter guy talk you out of the part you came in for?
