I finally fixed my rattling exhaust with a hose clamp and a quarter
Last Saturday in Tulsa the drone on the highway was driving me nuts, so I crawled under my old Ranger, found the hanger bracket cracked clean through, and wedged a stainless hose clamp around the rubber mount plus a quarter to shim the gap, and after 40 miles of pure silence I wonder how many other cheap fixes are hiding under my truck that I've been ignoring.

Hold on, a quarter is gonna rust and corrode outta there in a couple months, especially with all the heat and road salt. Youre basically setting yourself up to do this same fix again next spring. Youd be way better off finding a thick nylon washer or cutting a piece of an old belt to use as a shim. Plus, make sure that hose clamp isnt biting into the rubber mount too hard, or youll just tear up a new spot and end up with an even worse rattle. But hey, I get it, sometimes you gotta use what's in the cup holder at 10pm on a Saturday. Just keep an eye on it and check back under there when you change your oil.
