Unpopular opinion: closed car carriers aren't worth the extra money

Paid $1,500 extra for enclosed shipping for my 2019 Mustang from Dallas to Denver last month. Car arrived with a scratch anyway from the tie-downs. Buddy shipped his truck open for half the price. Zero damage. Insurance covered my scratch but still took 3 weeks for the check. Anyone else have better luck with open carriers?

Honestly that sounds super frustrating and I get why you'd feel like the extra money was wasted. But maybe it's just me, I feel like a lot of the damage from closed carriers happens when the driver is loading or unloading your car in tight spaces. Like they have to squeeze it in with other expensive cars and sometimes the straps get rubbed weird. Did you ask the company how they secure the car inside the trailer? Because some of them use those soft loop straps that can still scratch if they're dirty, while others have better padding. I'd be curious if the damage was from the tie-downs themselves or if something else hit it during the trip.

You're giving them too much credit, the whole point of paying more is they shouldnt need excuses.
