Update: I stopped picking car shippers by the lowest quote after a 3-week mess moving my Tacoma from Phoenix
Everyone in this community says you should always chase the cheapest quote and I think that advice is flat out wrong. Back in March I needed to move my 2014 Tacoma from Phoenix to Seattle and I got five quotes ranging from $850 to $1,400. I went with the $850 broker because the reviews looked okay and I figured the extra $500 was just markup. Pickup took 9 days past the window they gave me, then the driver called saying he needed another $200 cash for a fuel surcharge that was not in my paperwork. My truck showed up 5 days late with a cracked mirror and the broker basically ghosted me once I filed a claim. The $1,400 quote I skipped came from a company that had a real dispatch number and a written pickup window. Adding up the surcharge, a rental car for 6 extra days, and the $310 mirror fix, I spent way more than if I had just paid the higher number up front. So what actually matters when you compare these companies, is it the quote or the broker's track record? Curious if anyone here has a way to spot the good ones before you pay a deposit.
