The $250 clear bra job in my garage that I finally admitted was a waste
I put a clear bra on my wife's Outback myself about a year ago to save money, using a kit I got for $250 from a guy in Sacramento on Craigslist. Last month my neighbor Rick, who runs a body shop, watched me struggle with a corner and pointed out I had been using a squeegee on a dry panel, which is basically scratching the film, not smoothing it. Turns out I had been doing it wrong from the start, and the edges were already peeling because I never used slip solution at all. I pulled the whole thing off and found grit trapped underneath in like six spots, so I had been sealing in scratches for almost a year. Now I am out the $250 plus whatever it costs to fix what I did to the paint, and I keep wondering if anyone else has tried to DIY this kind of stuff and regretted it. Do you all think clear film is even worth it for a daily driver, or should I just wax it and move on?
