Took the factory scan tool over the cheap OBD2 reader, zero regrets so far

Been doing side work out of my garage in Reno for a few years now and always used the $40 OBD2 reader from Amazon. Last month a 2016 F-150 rolls in with a weird intermittent miss and the generic tool just gave me a P0300 code. I spent like 3 hours chasing coils and plugs based on that alone. Finally got fed up and borrowed my buddy's OEM-level scanner from his shop. That thing pulled up live cylinder misfire counts and pinpointed cylinder 7 instantly. Swapped that one coil and it ran perfect, saved the customer maybe 200 bucks in parts they didn't need. Now I'm thinking about dropping the 500 on my own unit but I'm still cheap about it. Anyone else finally cave and buy a proper scan tool after fighting with the cheap ones for too long?
