TIL that engine noise helped me spot a leak before it got bad

I always assumed small hisses were normal on older cars. A mentor had me listen with a stethoscope and found a vacuum line crack. Now I make noise checks part of my routine. It's caught a few leaks that would have caused bigger issues later.
