The $8 transmission filter that turned my shop rag collection upside down

I swapped a clogged filter on a 2007 F-150 last Tuesday and the old one had so much metal sludge it looked like a glitter bomb went off in the pan. After the new filter and fluid change, the truck shifted smoother than the day it left the lot, which I did not expect from a part that costs less than a lunch special. Has anyone else seen a simple filter replacement make that dramatic of a before-and-after difference, or was this just a lucky case of neglect?
