My old boss told me to stop torquing lugs to spec on rusty hubs and it's been bugging me for 2 weeks
Was grabbing lunch with Ray, who ran the tire bay at the shop on Grand Ave for 22 years, and he said he always just hits them with the impact and calls it good because nobody ever comes back. I've been doing the star pattern with a torque wrench at 85 ft lbs since I started and now I'm second guessing myself. He said half the guys at his old place did it his way and they never had a wheel come off. Am I wasting time or is Ray just lucky?
