I used to throw a torque wrench on everything by feel - now I actually look up specs after a manifold bolt snapped on me

Oh boy, you're not kidding. I think most of us have at least one story like that. It's almost a rite of passage, isn't it? You figure you can save a few bucks or cut a corner, and then it just snowballs into something way worse. For me it was a cheap roof repair that ended up costing three times as much in water damage. You learn to just pay for the right job the first time after something like that.
