I always figured a timing belt was a 'when it breaks' fix, but my old teacher's manual said a snapped one can bend valves in 90% of interference engines.
Found that stat in a greasy Chilton guide from 1998 while cleaning the garage, and now I push the replacements way harder... anyone else have a go-to fact that changes how you explain jobs to customers?

That "bend valves in 90%" stat is the exact kind of thing that gets people to listen. It turns a maybe into a definite consequence they can picture. I use simple, scary facts like that to cut through the "I'll do it later" mindset.

Scare tactics backfire long term. Saw a study where 30% of people actually avoid info after hearing a scary stat like that. It shuts them down. Your method, @lee.casey, might get a quick fix but builds resistance. People need to understand the why, not just fear the what if.
