Heard a guy at the parts counter say he always torques oil drain plugs to spec now

He stripped one on a customer's Civic and it cost him $300 for a new pan. Anyone else make that switch after a costly mistake?

Seriously? How do you even strip one that bad. Was he using a breaker bar on a 14mm bolt. My torque wrench only comes out for head bolts and lug nuts honestly. Feels like overkill for a drain plug. But I guess that's the point. You get lazy and then it's a real expensive lesson.
