Had a customer's brake caliper seize up on the lift in Phoenix, and the debate in our shop was whether to rebuild it on the spot or just replace the whole assembly.

I was doing a pad slap on a 2012 F-150 when the piston wouldn't retract, so I had to decide between spending an hour cleaning and rebuilding with a $30 kit or installing a $150 reman unit to get the truck out faster.

Remember my buddy who only replaced one caliper? He had to do the other side six months later when it started sticking. The extra labor cost basically ate up the savings from not doing both at once. Sometimes matching the pair is the cheaper move long term.
