Dropped $900 on a scan tool that paid for itself in one job

I finally caved and bought a real bidirectional scan tool after fighting with a cheap OBD2 reader for years. A 2018 F-150 came in last Tuesday with a ghost misfire, and the cheap unit just said 'random misfire.' This new one let me cycle the injectors live and found cylinder 5 dead in about 10 minutes. Customer approved the injector swap on the spot, and the labor alone covered the tool cost. Anyone else ever had a big purchase like this pay off that fast, or did I just get lucky?
