TIL I was sanding primer wrong for like 10 years. A guy at the shop in Akron asked me why I was still using 400 grit before base.

It's just sanding primer, not rocket science. People get way too deep into the details sometimes. As long as the paint sticks, you're fine.

My buddy skipped the sanding step on some primer last year because he said the same thing. Two months later his whole paint job started peeling off in sheets like a bad sunburn. Had to strip everything back to bare metal and start over, cost him a fortune in extra paint and time. Turns out those details matter when you want the finish to last more than a season.
