The cheap stud welder I bought in January is junk now, my old $80 one still works

Tbh I picked up one of those no-name stud welders off Amazon in January because my Harbor Freight one finally gave out after 6 years. The new one pulled decent dent pulls for the first 2 months, but now the trigger sticks and the tips burn up every other car. I mostly do collision work in Austin so I ran it through maybe 40 repairs before it started slipping on the small stuff. My buddy swears by swapping the cables on those units, has anyone else had their cheap welder die this fast or just me?

I used to tell everyone the cables were the first thing to swap on those cheap units, figured it was just a wiring issue and nothing else mattered. But honestly, after reading how yours died in basically the same timeframe mine did, I'm starting to think the whole trigger assembly is just built to fail. The tips burning up that fast is a big clue, that's not a cable problem, that's the internals getting too hot or cheap metal in the contact points. Your post kind of flipped my view, I was blaming the user or the environment before, but now I think these things are just made to be disposable. If yours slipped after 40 repairs and mine did too, that's not bad luck, that's the design.
