That wrecked semi at the Denver auction changed my mind about frame machines

I stopped by the Copart lot off I-70 last Saturday to look at a salvage Chevy for a side project, and watched a guy pull a crushed sleeper cab back to factory spec in about 40 minutes. Always thought those big frame racks were overkill for a small shop, but seeing how clean the measurements landed with the pull towers and laser gauges made me reconsider. Anyone here running a used frame machine in a cramped bay, or is that asking for trouble?

I read a forum post last year about a guy who fit a used frame rack in a single bay, and he said the main thing is you gotta bolt it down right and leave room to walk around the damn car. Watching that demonstration at Copart sure makes you think, though. The laser gauges they use now are way more precise than the old string and tape methods, so you're not guessing half the time. If your ceiling is tall enough for the towers and you don't mind shuffling cars around, it's doable. Just don't expect to use the bay for anything else while the rack's sitting there.
