Stopped by the old Miller's Auto Salvage in Tacoma yesterday
I used to pull parts there all the time in the late 90s. The whole place is different now, with most cars crushed into cubes and sorted by a machine. It made me think about how much of our work used to be finding and fixing good used panels, versus just ordering new ones. Do you still find yourself hunting for specific salvage parts, or is it all new aftermarket these days?

Remember my buddy trying to fix his old Land Rover last year. He spent weeks calling every salvage yard in three states looking for a specific rear quarter panel. He finally found one, but the shipping cost more than the part itself. It really showed me how the hunt for the right old part has become its own kind of lost art.

Yeah, that story about the shipping cost hits home. It feels like everything's become about the new, perfect, and instantly available part, even if it costs more. We're losing the skill of making do and finding value in things that are a little rough around the edges. It's not just car parts, it's like we've traded that whole scavenger hunt mindset for just clicking "buy now" on everything.
