Spray gun patterns changed overnight after I switched to a new regulator?
I been refinishing at my buddy's shop in Tulsa for about 9 years now, mostly collision work on late model trucks. Last Monday I swapped out my old inline regulator for one of those digital jobbers, and literally the next morning all my fan patterns went from a tight, even oval to a weird split pattern with a heavy center stripe. Same gun, same tip, same paint, same psi on the gauge. My first thought was the new regulator is lying to me about pressure, but the digital readout matches my old analog when I set it side by side. The other side of the argument is maybe my old regulator was so worn out that it was actually cushioning the air pulses, and now the compressor's unloader kicks in and messes with the atomization at the start of each pass. Anyone else seen a wild before and after like this when upgrading a simple air component, or is it more likely I got a bad batch of solvent on that same day?
