Shoutout to the old timer who told me to quit chasing every dent with a stud welder
Worked at a shop in Fresno for about 4 months when a guy named Ray with 30 plus years in the trade watched me pull a dent on a Camry rear quarter. I kept adding studs and yanking, and the metal kept stretching. He told me to slow down and work the crown instead, said the metal will tell you where it wants to go if you actually listen. I ignored him at the time and ended up with a wave so bad I had to skim it with filler just to hide it. Next job I tried it his way, spent maybe 15 extra minutes tapping and reading the panel, and the repair came out way cleaner with almost no filler. Cost me nothing but patience and saved me a ton of sanding. Any of you old school guys got a tip like that you wish someone had told you sooner?
