PSA: Stop using your DA sander to cut down body filler, it drives me nuts

I swear I see it every week in this shop. Some new guy grabs a DA with 80 grit and tries to shape filler with it like it's a grinder. You're just putting deep swirls into the repair that take forever to block out later. I had to fix a fender yesterday that took me 3 extra hours because someone did this on a Honda Civic. Why are people ignoring the 36 grit discs that are literally right there on the shelf?

Feel your pain on this one. It's like people forget that a DA is for FINISHING work, not hogging off material. Every time I see those deep swirls I just shake my head knowing someone's gonna be cursing later trying to block them out.

And yeah @iris_dixon91 hit it right on the head. A DA with 80 grit just hogs off material and leaves those ugly swirls that take forever to sand out. Grab a 36 grit disc or even a gas-powered grinder with a hard pad if you're really trying to shape filler. Saves you the headache later.
