Old timer named Frank changed how I look at sanding blocks
I was talking to this guy Frank at a shop in Austin last week, been doing body work since the 80s. He showed me how he wraps his sandpaper around a piece of hard rubber instead of using those foam blocks for the final stage. Said the consistent pressure gets rid of those tiny wavy lines you can't see until primer. Has anyone else tried ditching soft blocks for harder surfaces on the last pass?

My neighbor Frank's been doing body work since the 70s and he swears by a hard rubber block too, but I'm not convinced it makes that big a difference for most folks. Seems like one of those tricks that only matters if you're chasing showroom perfection.

Man, @val_wilson I hear you but Frank's got a point about that final pass. Hard rubber gives you this dead flat pressure that foam just can't match, especially on long panels. It's one of those tiny details that really does matter once you start looking close.
