My painter told me to stop using 220 grit on clear coat, I didn't listen for 6 months
Back in March my old timer painter Bob told me to switch to 400 grit for sanding clear before buffing. I kept using 220 cause I thought it was faster and that I knew better. Ended up burning through clear on a 2018 silver Honda Accord and had to respray the whole quarter panel. Bob just looked at me and said "told ya" - that was $300 lesson. Anyone else get humbled by a senior tech's advice?

Bit excessive honestly. One panel needing a respray ain't that deep, happens to everyone. Paints got more leeway than people give it credit for.

Gotta respectfully disagree with @iris_dixon91 here. 220 grit on clear is asking for trouble - that silver Honda proved it. One respray might not seem deep but when you're the one paying for materials and eating the labor, it stings pretty bad.
