Missouri State Fair demo day made me change my masking tape routine
Watched a rep at the Missouri State Fair show a trick last summer. He laid 3M tape on a fresh quarter panel and then hit it with a heat gun for 10 seconds before shooting sealer. Peeled it off clean, no edge lift even after the panel sat in 90 degree sun for an hour. I used to just stick and shoot, but that demo cost me a repaint on a Ford F-150 door back in March because the tape pulled sealer off the edge. Has anyone else tried heating tape before masking, or do you stick with the old way?

Ran into the same mess on a silver Tacoma bed last fall, tape lifted the sealer right at the body line after a day in the sun. What worked for me was 8 to 10 seconds with the heat gun set low, maybe 200 degrees, and I keep the nozzle moving so I don't cook the paint. Then I press the edge down with a plastic squeegee while it's still warm and let it sit a minute before I spray. Pull it at a slow 45 degree angle and the edge comes off clean almost every time. Cheap tape still fights you though, so I quit buying the no name stuff.
