I used to skip primer on small scratch repairs until a paint rep in Dayton showed me his 5 year test panel
He had two panels side by side, one with sealer and one without, and the one without was peeling at the edges after just 5 years in the sun, so now I always shoot a coat of epoxy even on a quarter sized spot.
